Rajni dresses up as Sultan in other languages

Animated versions of movies could provide other revenue streams.
SuperStar Rajnikanth’s Sivaji might have been a super-hit in south India. But for those who don’t understand Tamil, you can watch a substitute called Sultan in English, Telugu or even Japanese. Only this will be an animated film, produced by Anil Ambani’s Adlabs Films at an extravagant budget of Rs 40 crore.

Welcome to the new world of animation films. Production houses like Adlabs, Karan Johar’s Dharma Production, Firoz Nadiadwala of Hera Pheri fame and Pritish Nandy Productions are converting blockbusters or popular heroes and characters into animated films with new stories and plots.

According to PricewaterhouseCoopers, this emerging market for animated films could be over Rs 340 crore by 2010 from only Rs 65 crore currently.

Unlike conventional movies, animation films could offer revenue streams far beyond the life of the film itself. “You could publish comic books, merchandise, create games and so on. Such projects have a life beyond a film and lend easily to sequels, gaming, publishing, licensing, and so on,” said Sidhartha M Jain, head of animation, Adlabs Films.

Companies are using different models to push their animation strategy. “These are not dumb conversions. We are transforming the movies into the new format and making them infinitely richer, bigger, and more powerful,” says Pritish Nandy, promoter Pritish Nandy Communications.

The production house is making three animation movies based on earlier releases. The first will be a version of Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena , which was made two years ago. The animation version is called EKEH version 2.0. The other two are based on blockbusters like Kaante and Pyar Ke Side Effects.

“In both cases, we take the story ahead. All these versions of existing films will be much larger in size and scale, which is possible while making animation movies,” Nandy added.

Likewise Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar's Dharma Productions is also converting its super hit movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in to an animation film.

Johar is planning to convert the three central characters in the film into animals—but the voice-overs will be done by the super stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjea.

There are others who are just taking characters and making an animation film around them. Adlabs Films, for instance, apart from using Rajnikanth is also leveraging existing kidswear label Gini& Jony.

“Using existing characters like Gini & Jony gives us a ready fan base or awareness for the characters. Also, in the case of Gini&Jony we get to partner with a retail company and leverage the potential in the licensing and merchandising space, which is essential for these kind of projects,” Jain explains.

He adds that the ancillary products will be out in the market much before the release of the movies. The budget for this film is Rs 15 to 20 crore .

Production houses are also looking at different audiences to tap. Adlabs, for instance, is concentrating primarily on the Indian family audiences, including kids across the globe.

But Nandy specifically says his films will not be children’s movies. “They will be fun flicks for everyone to watch. You will have great action. You will have sex. You will have violence. You will have everything that goes into the making of a mainstream movie.”

Both companies, however, are looking at the global market and hope to dub their movies to generate wider audience appeal amongst non-Indian audiences.

Chiru SDZ Fever Heading Towards July 26

Chiru SDZ fever is on high now. Everybody is looking towards July 26, the release day of 'Shankardada Zindabad'. After 'Sivaji', now the hype is starting for Shankardada Zindabad but not to the degree of Sivaji, indeed. Still the expectations on this film are not soaring up. So that is a good sign and if the film is made at last on average tone, it would turn out to be a grand success.

It was said that the vehicle parking bills collected for Sivaji in all the centers is more than the collections of 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom'. Will Shankaradada also create such record? Need to wait see.

The audio is getting huge applause all over and majority are saying that the songs are trendy and in tune with the Chiru's image.

About Balakrishna as Srikrishna Devaraya

Balakrishna played the role of Srikrishna Devaraya. Muralimohan, Parachuri, Jonnavittula, Suddala Ashok Teja, Harikrishna, Jayaprakash Reddy and Rajitha and others also enthralled the audiences.

The play is about the Krishna Ddevaraya along with Timmarasu coming to the native land and feeling bad about the generation which not talking proper Telugu. Suddala and Jonnavittula who played their real life roles sang the greatness of Telugu. Both the songs are superb and thrilled the audience that has the lyrics showing the greatness of the Telugu language.

Balakrishna as Srikrishnadevraya looks so dashing and dignified and lived in the role. Murali Mohan does not have much to do but he looked very nice in the costume.

After the show Balakrishna gave a speech for forty minutes without using a single word of English about the greatness of Telugu and also the people who came from motherland to abroad and the importance of retaining the cultural values. He also thanked the audience.

The play was directed by Balakrishna, which was written by Parachuri Gopalakrishna.

Titles are getting too CRAZY

Giving comical names to films has become order of the day. A film with the title 'Thinnama.. Padukunnama.. Thellarinda..' has already been commissioned. Ali is playing the lead role in the film.

It was Mahesh Babu's famous quote in the film 'Pokiri'. Another film 'John Apparao 40 Plus' has gone to sets recently.

Comedian Krishna Bhagavan is playing the title role. A play with the title 'John Apparao' drew many crowds in North Coastal Andhra. This play lampoons those Hindus who embrace Christianity, as felt by some. If that is the case, 'Seema Sastry' may lampoon Brahmin community.

Another film with the title, 'Chikkadu –Dorakadu' is getting ready. Comedian Venu Madhav is playing the key role.

“SATYABHAMA” is a blatant COPY of 50 First Dates

Once again a blatant copy of Hollywood film is seen light on Telugu screen. As Per the News The newly released film “Satyabhama” starring Bhoomika & sivaji is proved to be a straight copy from the film “50 First Dates” in which Adam Sadler and Drew Barrymore played the leads. It is pity that the film is copied straight along with scenes and dialogues. No novelty is seen and the director also made it a bad show despite copying.

Story of the Movie is...
Krishna Kumar (Sivaji) is a sculpt who lands up in Goa. He spots Satyabhama (Bhumika) and promptly falls in love with her. He even proposes to her and she asks him to meet the next day. When he meets her the next day, she fails to identify him. He realizes why she is not able to recognize him. He goes through several hurdles before making her parents agree to the marriage. Now it is the turn of Krishna Kumar's parents to turn down the girl. Why does Satya keep forgetting who Krishna Kumar is? Did Krishna Kumar finally get to marry her? Watch the film on silver screen to realize the plot.

Satyabhama is loosely based on Hollywood film 50 First Dates. It is in fact, a tough deal to adapt the film and to make it convincing for Telugu nativity. Srihari should be applauded for making this possible and making it a good entertainer with the required changes incorporated. The first 20 minutes of the film is mediocre. But then the film gets interesting and makes the audience glued to seat. Even though he is a debut director, he is 100% successful in delivering a good entertainer. The best part of the film is that even if you saw the original flick (50 First Dates), this film still feels refreshing. Also, he made sure that there is nothing served in overdose. Every ingredient is mixed in right aspects. Also, there were several scenes in the film that are sure to touch the heart. Though the film gets emotional at times, fun part is never missed.

The best part of the film is apt star cast. Sivaji and Bhumika are apt in their roles. They are a big plus point for the film. Most part of the film revolves on the main lead and they did justice to their roles. His comedy timing is good. Bhumika excelled in her role. After Missamma, she scores big with this film. In short, the lead pair delivered superb performance.

Chandramohan as Satya's father. Melkote as her grandfather and Ravi Babu as her brother did a fantastic job. Sivaprasad, though appears only for short time as Sivaji's dad, did a good job. Sunil as Peter Subbarao is hillarious in his role.

Though the songs in the film are average, background score is excellent. Hello Madam Satyabhama remix version is decent. Rest all songs are okay. Cinematography is good. Editing could have been better.

Overall, Satyabhama is a clean and neat family entertainer. Barring one song, there is absolutely no obscenity or vulgarity in the film. This film can be enjoyed with the entire family.

Lakshyam Telugu movie review

Cast: Gopichand, Anushka, Jagapathi Babu, Kalyani, Kota Srinivas Rao, Venu Madhav, Brahmanandam, Dharmavarapu Subhramanyam, Yashpal Sharma, Amit, ‘Ahuthi’ Prasad, Raghu Babu, Ravi Babu, Asish Vidyarthi (in a guest role) and others.

Banner: Lakshmi Narasimha Productions

Music: Mani Sharma

Cinematography:Sekhar Joseph

Stunts: Ram Lakshman and Vijay

Production: Nallamalupu Srinivas alias Bujji

Story, Screenplay & Direction: Srivaas

Story: Bose (Jagapathi Babu) and Chandu (Gopichand) are brothers in a family which contains parents who are very friendly (father is Kota Srinivas Rao) and Jagapathi Babu’s wife (Kalyani) and daughter. Bose is a scincere D.C.P (Police) who tries to arrest a local criminal called ’section’ Shankar (Yashpal Sharma) who eliminates any person who knows his secret. He kills Bose by joining hands with S.P and Chandu’s close friend. How Chandu takes revenge on them forms the remaining part of the story.

Performance: The whole movie is stolen by Jagapathi Babu’s performance. He did a commendable job a sincere police officer who gives away his life on-duty. Jagapathi Babu has improved a lot in action as well as emotional scenes.

The second person who stole the show is Gopi Chand. He is at his best in all the departments like action, emotion, dance and comedy. He looks cool and casual in college senes and manly in fight sequences. His performance during his brother’s death is note worthy.

Anushka did a decent job as the heroine and looks hot and sexy in song sequences. Gopichand and Anushka together form a good on-screen pair and their body language and chemistry are good. From Super to Lakshyam, she has improved a lot.

Yashpal Sharma, a Bollywood villan is doing a telugu movie for the first time and he is passable. There is nothing to mention about his villanism in the movie.

The comedy track between Venu Madhav and Brahmanandam is good and refreshing.

Kota Srinivas Rao, Dharmavarapu Subhramanyam, Ravi Babu and Raghu Babu, all performed well.

Music composed by Mani Sharma is good. The music for the remix song ‘niluvave valukanulada….’ is good and also for the last song is fast and foot tapping. The bachground score during action sequences is gripping and needs a special mention.

The cinematography by Sekhar Joseph is good in songs. The locations are captured well.

The stunts in this look nice and natural after a very long time. Ram Lakshman and Shiva took special efforts to compose good fight sequences for Gopichand who already has an of action hero.

Story and direction by debutant Srivaas are good. Though the story has shades of hindi flick Ghayal, it is well customized for Andhra audience. The story moves at a brisk phase and never bores us. Sri vaas proved his talent as a director in his first movie itself.

Strengths: Jagapathi Babu and Gopichand

Weaknesses: Nothing which needs a mention here.

Tag line: Lakshyam - action for mass and emotion for class
