New heroines entries in Tollywood

Deepika Padukone, daughter of Prakash Padukoney, the Great Badminton player is still on a hold for Mahesh Babu’s next flick “Mirchi”. This movie ll be after “Athithi” which is gonna release in a very short time. Deepika Padukoney competes with two other heroines Hansika Motwani and Nayanatara to bag the offer. Don’t you think it would create waves in tollywood if Deepika steps into Tollywood???

Sradharya,a totally different name! This Bollywood beauty acted with Amitabh Bachchan in “Nishabdh”. This time she’s been signed for a film that is gonna be a debut for Director Kodanada Rami Reddy’s son. The title of the film is yet to be decided. And most importantly, this lady has given a ‘no objection’ for exposing!!!

The other who’s gonna make a ‘heroine’ entry is Samyogitha. Though the details of her movie are not yet known, this actress has also tried out in Kollywood.

Let’s wish them all the best for their entries….

It’s high time Telugu actor Nitin to realize his fortune in Telugu movie industry. Nitin is popularly compared by Uday Kiran for his stature and success graph. Tollywood works on a very simple rule, ‘Buddy the Best”. Nisha Kothari, Bhavana has turned down to work in the movies for which Nitin is the hero, though they pasted different reasons like , too much exposing demanded by director or silliest possible reasons like remuneration. Luckily Suhani, who is finding her foothold loose in the industry agreed to take up the role. So exposing / Nitin/remuneration are not problems for her.

Devisri Prasad is well known for his live shows where he not only sings but also dances like the pop stars. “Varsham”, “Nuvvosthanante Nee Voddantana”, “Shankar Dada MBBS” etc. A young new director Purushottam has narrated a story to him and he readily agreed. The film has a music background and this is what has caught the interest of him.

After Godavari, Telugu Diector Sekhar Kammula is gearing up with his Happy Days which he is also producing on Amigos Creations Pvt Ltd banner. The production is going on at a fast pace. About 45 days of schedule was completed at CBIT. Presently the shooting is going on in and around Hyderabad. The film has all new cast. Mickey J Mayar is the music director. 18 days more of schedule is pending. Post production is already going on in parallel.

Sekhar Kammula has a strategic branding partnership with Cloths major Pantaloon for his latest film Happy Days. All the cloths used for “Happy Days” are from Pantaloon. Sekhar Kammula said that they used over 900 dresses so far from Pantaloons which have come for free of cost. This arrangement itself saved Sekhar around 10 lakhs. The shooting of the film is almost complete. Audio will be launched in 16/17 July and film will be released on 3/9 August.

TEJA to Produce “JENDAPAI KAPIRAJU” whichis to be Directed by KRISHNAVAMSI

It is reliably learnt that “Jendapai Kapiraju” was selected as the title for a film to be directed by Krishnavamsi and produced by noted director Teja with Raviteja as hero. The film would be produced on ‘Chitram Movies’ banner owned by Teja. Presently Krishnavamsi is busy with his film “Chandamama” with Sivabalaji, Navadeep, Kaajal and Sindhu Tolani in the lead. At the same time, Raviteja is also busy with a film under the direction of VV Vinayak. After both the films complete their shooting and both the director and hero become free, this movie would go to sets. That means, the film may go to sets in January 2008.

The most surprising point to note here is that Teja, himself a director, is producing ‘Jendapai Kapiraju’ with some other director like Krishnavamsi wielding the megaphone.

Telugu director Harish has got another plum chance. He is all set to direct for Puri Jagannadh’s Vaishno Academy. According to sources, the talented young director is now busy penning a script for the production house. Puri Jagannadh’s brother Sai is likely to be his hero. Harish made his debut with “Shock”. Even though the film didn’t run successfully, his directorial abilities were appreciated by everyone. We wish him all the best.
we see Harish With Ram Gopal Varma in Photograph.

The sultry siren in fact wants to don the director’s hat sometime soon. “After working with many noted directors, I think I have acquired some knowledge in direction. And though, it’s not an easy job, one day I’ll take up direction for sure and reach the pinnacle of success. After all, a director is like the captain of a ship,” she says. Well, all the best, we say!

It is being said that Prakash Raj is back to his old ways. He reports late for shootings which puts both the director and the other actors to severe inconvenience. Even the producer is not happy as his film gets delayed due to frequent pack ups on account of the absence of Prakash Raj.That old habits die hard was once again proved when he did not report on time for his latest film “Athidi” with Mahesh Babu in the lead. It is believed that the entire unit of Athidi is fed up with Prakash Raj’s erratic ways and he is being dropped from the film. Sushanth Singh the villain in “Dubai Seenu” is being seriously considered to play villain in the film in place of Prakash Raj.

Mega star Chiranjeevi has been rattled by the case filed by Nandini, the first wife of Pawan Kalyan. The entire family is distressed over the issue. While those close to them say that the family is also to blame for the issue. They did not do anything about Nandini and encouraged Pawan and Renu Desai.By default, this amounts to welcoming and encouraging Pawan Kalyan. The biggest problem for Chiranjjevi is his image both on and off the screen. He has played Good Samaritan roles in films coming to the aid of people in distress. He has also played elder brother in films and has been shown as helping his wayward brothers to mend their ways and come up in life. Now his fans want him to do the same thing. All this is making Chiranjeeevi to make amends. According to the family members of Nandini, Chiranjeevi and Allu Aravind are sending feelers to settle the issue amicably out of court. They are ready to pay compensation to Nandini so that she can withdraw the criminal case. They are now ready to pay up to 10 crore for an amicable settlement.

Audio of “Shankardada Zindabad” is to be released on the 5th of July. Devisri Prasad scored the music for this sequel to “Shankardada MBBS”. Arrangements are being made to can a couple of songs on Mega Star Chiranjeevi and heroine Karishma Kotak at the specially erected sets in Annapurna Studios. This Prabhu Deva directed film is eagerly awaited by both the audience and the innumerable Chiru fans.

The film also created a record for itself, by debuting in the 9th position on the UK box-office charts. Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan watched a special screening of Sivaji at a theatre in Andheri, Mumbai.

Actress Vedika has been signed to play opposite Allu Arjun in a new film. She has acted with Arjun in “Sivakasi” and with Lawrence in “Muni”. She is presently acting in a movie with hero Kalyan Ram under the direction of Samudra. Bommarillu Bhaskar will direct the new film and Dil Raju is the producer.

The film will go to floors next month.

Yana Gupta to do an item song in “SHANKARDADA ZINDABAD”

The Telugu film industry box office is gearing up for a thundering roar and publicity. Megastar Chiranjeevi’s “Shankardada Zindabad” is gearing up for release. Shankardada Zindabad is the remake of “Lage raho Munnabhai”. Lage raho Munnabhai’s first version Munnabhai MBBS is also done with Chiranjeevi as Shankardada MBBS. Shankardada MBBS is a good hit. Naturally the hype surrounding Shankardada Zindabad is very high. Prabhudeva who choreographed excellent numbers for Chiranjeevi in the past is directing this film. Srikanth is playing friend to Chiranjeevi. Karishma Kotak is the heroine.

At present, the unit is filming a song in Padmalaya studios. It is a special song on Chiranjeevi and Yana Gupta (Babuji Jara Dheere fame). Yana Gupta appeared in item numbers in films like Manmadhan, Anniyan, Gharshana etc. Noble is choreographing this song.

Audio of the film will release on 4th of July through Aditya Music company. Devisri Prasad composed music. Makers are planning to release the film either on 12th or 19th of July.

Telugu Actress FARZAANA getting slotted?

The Tollywood actress Farzaana, who enjoyed success with her debut film “Bhagyalaxmi Bumper Draw”, is back in Tollywood and is again being roped into a comedy called “Seemasastry” with Naresh as the hero. The lady is gradually being slotted into comedy roles in comedy movies and as expected she will be asked to do a lot of skin show as in her first movie. Nageshwara Reddy directs this film and it is likely to release in the 2nd week of July.

Telugu film industry Prince Mahesh Babu is fast emerging as the most bankable star in South India. Even some big companies are after him to act as brand ambassador for their products. He recently took over from Chiranjeevi as the brand ambassador for Coco cola for their brand Thums Up.And he is now doing an ad for Hero Honda. The dashing hero will endorse the bike. Keeping in mind the fan following of Mahesh Babu, the ad would be very peppy and stylish. The contract with Hero Honda is for a three year period and Mahesh is being paid 6.5 crore for this.

A new Telugu film in the combination of National Award winner actress Meera Jasmine and hero Sivaji is announced the birthday party function of the hero amidst the unit members of “Satyabhama”. The venue was the FNCC, Hyderabad. Producer Soma Vijayaprakash announced that he would be launching the flick in a couple of weeks. The film would be directed by Raja Vannem Reddy, who earlier dealt the comedy films Kshemanga Velli Labanga Randi and Aadivaram Adavallaku Selavu. Gopi, the producer of Satyabhama will be the joint producer. The duo had earlier starred in the semi-successful film “Ammayi Bagundi”. Currently, Sivaji’s film “Satyabhama” with Bhumika as heroine is going to release in the first week of July. Hero Sivaji had cut the cake and was greeted by the unit members.

It is being said that Telugu hero Kalyan Ram’s current film being directed by V Samudra is titled “Vijayadasami”. It best suits for the film’s storyline, which is a brother and sister sentiment drama. Earlier, “Shivam” was the title considered for the film as it is remake of Tamil hit “Shivakasi”.

E Rangarao produces the film on Sai Sarwajeet Movies banner. It is currently being shot at Hyderabad. A huge street set has been erected for this film. Vedika is the heroine for this film.

“Vijayadasmi” is expected for Dussera release.

Noted producer Medikonda Muralikrishna is planning a film under the direction of Nagesh Naradasi on the banner of Venkata Ramana Productions with Tarun as hero.

The film was titled as “Chandamamatho Oka Maata Cheppaali”. It may be recalled here that the producer of the film Medikonda Muralikrishna had earlier produced a blockbuster called “Narasimha Naidu” under the direction of B Gopal with Balakrishna as hero.

Likewise, the director of the film Nagesh Naradasi was familiar to the Telugu audiences with his recent film “Sri Satyanarayana Swamy” which run as an average movie.

One had to wait and watch how the combination of a hit producer and an average director with Tarun as hero work out. Presently the story discussions are in progress.

Actress Jyothi Krishna says that whenever she is stressed out she plays music and soon comes out of it. She is acting in the film Paata. The film is a musical entertainer as the title suggests and is ready to hit the screen on July 7.

Chennai Court moved to stop screening of “Sivaji”

Superstar Rajnikant-starrer Sivajihas run into a legal squabble over its script. The film may be a blockbuster but an assistant director has moved to court claiming he wrote the story.

The Fifth City Civil court issued a notice to Sivaji’s director Shankar and three others and posted the hearing in a week.

Sudalai K Jayarajadevan’s claimed in his petition that he met Shankak’s manager in 2005 where he discussed the script with him and some other persons from the film industry.

He alleged that after that time when he contacted the manager, he evaded him.

He finally managed to meet the manager and was promised a meeting with the director. The meeting did not materalise as the manager did not show up, the petition said.

The petitioner said he learnt to his surprise that his story was used for the film Sivaji. On June 6, he contacted the director’s office and was told that he was away in Canada.

Jayarajadevan claimed if the film’s screening was not stopped, he would suffer irreparable loss, inconvenience and hardship and sought an injunction to restrain the screening of the film till disposal of the suit

Rajini is the boss, from South to North

For the first time perhaps in the history of regional cinema Sivaji -The Boss starring superstar Rajinikanth has managed to go beyond the Tamil-speaking audience and make its presence felt pan-India and beyond.

Though Sivaji is being screened without Hindi or English subtitles in north India, it has still managed 98 per cent occupancy in the first week for the 39 shows that it ran in PVR cinemas, grossing more than Rs 10 lakh in two weeks.

So has Rajinikanth broken the North-South divide? CNN-IBN discussed the issue on Face the Nation with a comprising Mumbai film distributor Nambi Rajan, film critic with The Hindu Sudhish Kamath, Head of Cinemedia, PVR Ltd Delhi, Gautam Dutta and film critic with The Indian Express Shubhra Gupta.

Beyond boundaries

Though reports indicate that Sivaji was more of an urban phenomenon, Nambi Rajan said that the movie was doing extremely well in rural Tamil Nadu as well.

Sudhish Kamath agreed. “The movie has a pan-India approach. In many ways it is Swades told in a comic-book format. Rajinikanth’s appeal goes beyond rural and urban sectors and has transcended international boundaries,” he said.

Shubhra Gupta, on the other hand, felt that we might be jumping the gun in saying that Rajini’s movies were truly cross urban and rural divide as well.

“Sivaji in itself is a brilliant entertainer but it’s not representative of all of Rajinikanth’s movies. But Rajinikanth does the entertaining in such a convincing manner that it does not matter if it is in Tamil. He just takes you over. He dances, he sings, he does everything,” said Shubhra Gupta.

To that, Vidya Shankar Aiyar pointed out that in her review on Sivaji in The Indian Express, she had written that the movie was ‘sublime nonsense’. “Yes, don’t try to find logic in the film,” she said.

Language no bar

Turning to Gautam Dutta, Vidya Shankar Aiyar asked what gave him the confidence to take on a Tamil film with no subtitles?

“People love Rajinikanth and he is a true superhero. Sivaji has a great visual appeal. You don’t really have to know the language. You can just sit back and let Rajini take you on a flight of fantasy. We were in fact surprised to see that kind of passion to watch the movie in Delhi,” he said. Source:ibnlive

Rumor of CHARMI's marriage

With rumor of Charmi's marriage with Devisri Prasad, Charmy has actually left with no movies in Telugu except “Mantra”. She is only counting on some Tamil/Punjabi offers. No big movie makers are finding her juicy enough to offer her roles. Poor sole, now she has only one dream ie. To rock the Tollywood for the last time before the wedlock. Devisri Prasad should certainly bail her out of these tough times.

Interview with SUMAN

A handsome, tall guy, skilled in martial arts climbed up the ladder of success pretty fast in Telugu films at one time. Suman was on the ladder of becoming a top star. Fate has it that he was in news and out of industry for quite some time for wrong reasons. He fought the tough times and came back with successful films like Bava Bavamaridi, Peddintalludu etc. He even won Nandi award for Bava Bavamaridi. In the recent years, he was mostly doing character roles. A few years ago he was seen as Lord Venkateswara in the film Annamayya and he is The guy now for any devotional roles. Luck smiled at him one more time when he was casted against Rajani Kanth for the film Sivaji. The film released and got good reviews for Suman. An Interview Held with Suman...

How are you enjoying the success of Sivaji?
It is definitely encouraging. I know that it will be a big success from day one. One of the India's best director, South Indian Superstar, Music legend AR Rehman and top class technicians teamed up for the film; One of the biggest production companies in India produced this film. So any one could predict the success of the film. And that is proved true today. Success of Sivaji is more special for me not just because I am part of this film but also got good reviews. It is a different Suman who is not seen or shown that way so far. And I am introduced to entire world with this film. I am very thankful to the producers and director Shankar.

How is the working experience with Shankar?
Personally, he is a good human being and is very good at heart. He is very simple and humble. Professionally, he is the great director I have ever worked with. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he is Hollywood range director. He knows what he wants and does not compromise on any thing. He brought out the best in me. I acted in more than 350 films in various languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marati. With even such experience, I still had lot to learn from him. one of the comforts working with a director like Shankar is - he explains everything clearly and some times he even enacts the scenes himself. He is careful and very choosy about every character including getups, makeup, costumes. In my situation, I assumed the role to appear as a huge guy with terrific appearance. In contrast to my assumption, Shankar asked that I remove my moustache and act without any makeup. I applied gel to my hair, if you call it make up. That is all. Look at how he projected the character of Adiseshu. It got good recognition.

How is the it working with Rajani Kanth?
I am a good friend with Rajani Kanth. I also came from Tamil industry, remember. Even though Rajani Kanth is a good friend, I rarely met him. Because of Sivaji, I got to work with Rajani Kanth for almost one and half year. He is a great person. It is very surprising to see how simple he is inspite of the stardom he enjoys. He is very friendly with every one on the sets. He is on the sets 30 minutes before the scheduled time. And also, he never wanted to leave early or take a break. Once he is on sets, he is totally involved until the director calls for packup. It did not matter to him if he had any shots remaining for the day, but he would stay on the sets until the entire unit packed up. He would tell every one when he left the sets.

We talked a lot on the sets. I learnt many valuable things from him. He is a great philosopher too. I would not hesitate to call him Modern Guru. He has immense knowledge in any subject. Even though my character dominated at times in the film, he did not interfere and on top of it, he prompted me to do well. He is simply great.
You alloted a year of dates for this film. Was it uncomfortable?
I was asked the dates for an year. It eventually became 1 year and 4 months. I was given schedules of 15 days a month. That way I could do other films in the rest 15 days. It is a fact that I missed some good films because of this schedule. But I dont have any regrets. Because Sivaji can happen only once. It will not come again when I feel ready. So I did not want to miss this kind of an unique opportunity. Makers of other films that I was working at that time were also very understanding and helpful.

You were wearing glasses through out the film. Eyes contribute a major share for expression. How did you manage that?
Ya.. that was tough. I had to move facial muscles to express smile or anger. Shankar helped me a lot with that. He threw in his suggestions but gave me full freedom with my character. I am glad that efforts are paid off and my performance got good reviews.

You were in the industry for almost 3 decades. How do you analyze these years?
Firstly, I never entered the industry with the intention of becoming an actor. I got a chance to act in a Tamil film 'Swimming Pool' by chance. With the encouragement from my friends and well wishers, I did that film. It became a super hit. So naturally I got more offers. Even then I did films as just a hobby. Gradually it became my career. My friends gave me a good reason to take up acting as career; It is tough to settle in the industry without any backup support. Since I already landed up with good offers, it is better off that I continue my career in films. I took up the idea. So I am thankful to the producer of Swimming Pool who got me into films.

It is Thammareddy Bharadwaja who introduced me to Telugu. The film is Iddaru Kiladilu. However, it took time with production and my first film to release in Telugu is Tarangini. Tarangini became a good hit and ran for 1 year. And there was no looking back from then for few more years to come. Vamsi's Sitara, Neti Bharatam, Bava Bavamaridi, comedy films including Alludu series films and many more stood as big hits and continued my success streak. There were ups and downs in this journey. I took every thing in an optimistic way and kept bouncing back.

Even though I did many films as hero, it was K.Raghavendra Rao who gave me break as a character artist. He prompted me to play father to Allu Arjun in the film Gangotri. He is the one who proved that Suman could do character roles too. If all of this is one leg of my carrer, getting to do devotional roles is the other. I feel blessed and great about doing the roles of Gods after NTR. Annamayya, Sri Ramadasu, and Satyanarayana Swami - I did God roles in all these films. I will be always proud of it. Once again I am greatful and thankful to K.Raghavendra Rao for that. And now with Sivaji, Shankar introduced me to lot more audience. So, my career is going on satisfactory, overall.

Even when you are doing character roles and hero roles, you did some low films that were not even known to audience that they released. Why was that?
Firstly, I dont want to stay doing nothing. You have to keep saying that you are in the industry and the only way to do that is keep doing films. It doesnt matter if they are small or big. Secondly, I did mistake in picking few films. That too, I was narrated one script but later on the makers changed it the way they wanted either due to budget or whatever restrictions they had. Because of that I became part of some bad films. Thirdly, I never rate films as big and small. I always look at them for either good or bad. In fact, it is one of the small films that got me role in Sivaji. You wont believe it but it seems Shankar saw me talking in one of the pressmeets for a small film and thought to give me a try for that role. The call came one day and I landed up with the role.
What is a good cinema in your view? What is your view on present cinema?
Well, it is a tough question. In simple words, a movie that can give the two hours of entertainment to the audience is considered a good film. Audience come to film to relax.

Coming to present trend of films, I think the films are propagating wrong messages. There is too much of exaggeration and obscenity in films. There is a difference in showing beauty and showing skin. Also, cheap comedy on responsible people of the society such as teachers, police and lawyers is also out of bounds now. I hope that the trend changes and good movies make their way up.
What kind of music do you like and what are your favorite songs from your films?
I love music. Any kind of music as long as it is soothing and melodious. I listen to devotional every morning. The only sound I dont have an ear to is Rock and Rap. Coming to the songs from my films, there are many songs. There are a few special songs though. Title song of Tarangini, Gajje gallu mannado from Bava bavamaridi, Manavatvam parimalinche from Neti Bharatam and Kukuku from Sitara are special to me.
How come you are not seen at any functions?
I dont attend functions much. The reason is it is all trash. For example, look at what is spoken during an audio function. Most of it is trash. The reason why I say that is most of the speakers would not have even heard the songs but they go on saying that the songs are superb. It is a whole bunch of hypocrisy. If a noted personality is endorsing the songs to be awesome, audience would take it for granted. If they realize that the songs are a bunch of trash, then the credibility is all gone. And I dont like that happening to me.
Any suggestion for the aspirants?
A while ago, one had to have either good backup in the industry or bundle of talent to enter the film. Now a days, things are totally different. You dont need neither backup nor talent. If you want to become a hero, you can; if you have money. The attitude is also different. If you have money, make a film as a hero. If it clicks, film career continues. If not, go back and do what you were doing before.
